Questions
Do I need a VPN in China with this eSIM?
No. The China plans send your data out through Hong Kong (the China, Hong Kong and Macau plan through Singapore), so apps that are blocked on local Chinese networks, such as Google, WhatsApp, Instagram and YouTube, work without a VPN. Chinese apps such as WeChat and Alipay work too.
Which China plan should I choose?
1GB for 7 days suits a short business trip. 3GB for 15 days or 5GB for 30 days covers most holidays and family visits, and 10GB suits heavy use. If you are also visiting Hong Kong or Macau, choose the China, Hong Kong and Macau plan.
Will it work on my phone?
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM: iPhone XS or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer. The phone must be unlocked. To check, dial *#06#: if you see an EID number, your phone supports eSIM.
When do my days start?
When the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination, not when you buy or install it. Install it at home on Wi-Fi, then switch it on when you land.
Can I still use my normal number?
Yes. The eSIM adds data alongside your usual SIM, so your own number keeps receiving calls and texts. For calls to landlines and mobiles over data, use FiraPhone in your browser.
What if it does not work?
If the eSIM has not been installed, we refund it in full. Once installed, contact support and we will help you get connected.
